Job Description


Scope of Position

To work as a member of the Nursery team to provide a happy, safe, relaxed and stimulating atmosphere in which children receive a high standard of care and education, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Childcare and Education

Provide high standards of quality care and education within the Nursery including the environment, resources and experiences offered to children.

Observe, support and extend children's learning.

Plan appropriately for children using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.

Maintain accurate and effective children’s records.

Working in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.

Demonstrate good practice with regard to special needs and inclusion, utilising in-house Nursery specialist areas of practice staff for support.

Ensure that children are kept safe at all times and that you understand, and when necessary know how to follow, Safe Guarding / Child Protection Procedures.

Ensure that the nutritional needs of the children are met and that Food Safety Regulations are complied with.

Work with staff in all specialist areas of practice who may involve: area SENCOs, EYFS advisors, health professionals and local Sure Start programmes as appropriate.

Comply with the statutory framework for the EYFS and relevant statutory regulations including the Children Act and Every Child Matters.

Develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with mentor teachers, schools, and other agencies that may visit the setting.

Learn about current developments in childcare and education policy and practice.

Plan and attend nursery outings / additional leaning experiences.

As a key person you will be expected to carry out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families.

Health and Safety

Undertake a shared responsibility to ensure optimum levels of health, safety and cleanliness throughout the Nursery.

Ensure the general cleanliness of children at all times.

Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the sleep time, personal care and food surface areas of the Nursery.

Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures e.g. fire evacuation, stranger danger, and lost child policies.


Promote the Nursery to the highest standards at all times, in and out of work.

Work with the Manager and inspectors during inspections by regulatory bodies and to assist in the implementation of any recommendations.


Work as a team with other staff members at all levels.

Support and mentor students.

Be responsible for participating in all self-development activities including appraisals, supervisions and training.


Develop and promote parental partnership and involvement.

Ensure good communication at all times, particularly with regards to sharing information


Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by your Manager or other Senior Staff.

Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including full participation in an initial induction programme and employee handbook.
